Adolescents

I've been pretty healthy.  Do I still need a doctor?  We have been privileged to care for you since you were an infant: immunizations and toilet training, first sickness and first injury. Now you may be as tall as the support staff who measures you, and you come to the clinic with friends in tow instead of your mother. There are a lot of little kids and babies in the waiting room. Is this the place you belong?

But what do I need a doctor for?  You probably have health-related questions. They're just different than the ones your parents had as you were growing up:

  • Where can I get a sports physical?
  • What do I need to do health-wise before college?
  • What can I do about my acne?
  • Life seems too busy and I'm worried; what can I do?

Do I look good in this?  As a teen, you're expected to take control of many parts of your life. Two of those are diet and fitness. Sometimes it can be confusing to choose the right foods and the right amount.  Whether you're an athlete who needs to take in a higher amount of calories to balance your activity level, or you're concerned that you may be overweight, we can help.

This teenager stuff is hard!  You may find that the expectations of being a teenager can be overwhelming. A lot is expected of you. Keep your grades up. Doing the right thing socially. Don't embarrass yourself or your parents. Being a teen can be an exciting, but challenging, time in your life. It's normal to have some changes in your mood.

Is the journey really the reward?  Your life is not stagnant. It's a set of steps that will hopefully carry you to the next stage of your life. Here are some resources you might find helpful in that journey.

What's the down side?  As a teenager, you are faced with lots of choices and opportunities. Sometimes people don't make the best choices for their health. Be well-informed.

What if I think I'm not busy enough?  There are many resources for teens with links to things to do including recreation, cultural events, social action and continuing education. Nurture an old hobby or find a new one. Horizons are ready-made to be expanded. Here's a place to start.
