Newborn

Congratulations on your new arrival!  We hope that your experiences as a parent will be pleasant and rewarding.  We appreciate your choice of Partners in Pediatrics to care for your child.  It is our goal to provide the highest quality of health care for your child.

This folder is designed to hold the handouts and printed material that you receive as you visit our clinics keeping that information together and available for future use.

You may receive handouts regarding specific illnesses, behavior problems or anticipatory care. Some handouts may be tailored to your specific requests or needs depending on why your child is being seen. Others may be more general in nature.

We hope that as your child grows older that these materials will become a reference book tailored to your child.

Every time you come into the office for a well-child visit, you will receive a handout for a specific age, reviewing the various aspects of childhood at that particular point in time. Remember, these guides are meant to be a basis for discussion with your provider.

Each guide is divided into sections. Here is a summary of the type of the information you will find:

Development:   The average child does certain tasks at specific times. Unfortunately, all children are not average. One child may master some skills early and others later. This section will give you an idea of what a "typical" child is doing at any given age.

Safety:  This section focuses on prevention with age-appropriate ideas for keeping your child safe. While some ideas may seem like common sense, new suggestions are also explored. This is a great reminder for you to be proactive when it comes to your child's safety.

Parenting:  Parents are always looking for ways to expand and improve their child's creativity, interaction and self-esteem. This section offers a list of ideas to be used as a springboard to active parenting.

Behavior:  Volumes have been written on discipline and behavior in childhood. This small section is meant to be an inspirational sampling of ideas available to you. For more information, talk to your provider.

Nutrition:  Growth and food go hand-in-hand. This section reviews age-appropriate advice pertaining to nutritional issues and mealtime behavior.

Health:  There are certain health recommendations that affect nearly all children. In this section you will find practical advice on a wide range of health issues.

Resources:  Many times, as parents, we need more information. Partners in Pediatrics has detailed handouts on many specific areas. Here's where you will find recommendations of books, articles and website resources that will provide more age-specific information on a range of topics.
