| Accidental
injury is the leading cause of death for U.S. children from one to 14
years old, according to the child advocacy group Safe Kids Worldwide.
In an effort to reduce
childhood injury, North Memorial Medical Center is teaming with Safe Kids
Northwest Metro to offer discounted bike helmets this summer.
Bicycle helmets have
been shown to reduce the risk of head injury in a crash by as much as
85 percent and the risk of brain injury by as much as 88 percent.
The bike helmets will
be for sale at North Memorial’s Health and Care Shop location on
the first floor of the hospital. The shop’s hours are from 8 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m. Prices are below retail average at just $12 for standard
bicycle helmets and $15 for multi-sport helmets.
Helmets are available
in many different styles and colors for children and adults. They will
be available throughout the summer.
